The Underground
Based on travels throughout much of
the Western Hemisphere, the film takes
one on a visual and musical journey
through the underworlds of several
urban centers from New York to
Moscow.
Structurally, the film is divided into ten
“chapters.” As it is designed both
modularly and thematically, the film is
also without a traditional plot and
therefore these parts may be seen
individually or in any sequential order,
just as one might select a series of
paintings for the walls of an art gallery
or songs from a CD. Also in between
each “chapter” of the entire full length
version of the film are brief interludes,
several strictly documentary, others
animated. In this sense, The
Underground Cathedral is intended as
part documentary, part fantasy, part art
film, part music video clip and part
illuminated manuscript.
